The Sedgwick County Harvest Hub (SCHH) has hired Renee Elpers to lead the organization’s efforts to connect local growers, processors and distributors in Sedgwick County.
“I’m eager to help the Sedgwick County Harvest Hub connect farmers and consumers,” Elpers says. “I’m most excited about helping, whether it’s developing a new income stream for a farmer or seeing the education that comes from growers and consumers interacting with each other.”
Elpers grew up on a family farm near Cheney, which is where she developed a strong understanding of what it takes to grow food. She received her bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. Prior to joining the SCHH, Elpers worked for the National Resources Conservation Service, National Western Stock Show and the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association. In addition to her role at SCHH, Elpers is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.
Shop Kansas Farms (SKF) developed the harvest hub model to grow agriculture through community development and supply chain innovation. The SCHH was created in a partnership between SKF, the Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture and the Kansas Health Foundation. It is the second regional initiative designed to create economic opportunities for local farms, ranches and growers while making it easier for consumers to purchase fresh food at local, regional and national levels.
